How to change the application name?

I’m using SAP BUILD APPS and I left SAP APPGYVER aside for a bit.

In the new version (SAP BUILD APPS), I am unable to change the name of the application.

In the previous version (SAP APPGYVER) you just clicked on the name of the application and it allowed you to change the name. In this new version this does not happen.

How to make this change?

Hi Leo, what’s your plan for publishing your app? The free version only allows a couple of build (EVER)! I´d be fine with x builds per day / week / month or a cost on extra builds … but last time I looked, its a lifetime limit on each app.

And the paid tier is 1000$ per month. If this fits within your budget then fine. But for that much per month I feel there are better options available.

Me desculpe amigo.

The renaming of an application is a hassle in the new version.
You can no longer simply rename the app by clicking on the name. Instead what you can do is

  1. to export your app,
  2. create a new app with a new name,
  3. and import your app back again.

There are some other minor issues that I have already encountered, but most of them will be addressed for sure.

Yes, for sure I´m frustrated as I have many hundreds of hours invested in AG. Since the takeover by SAP there hasn´t been a lot to be cheerful about, and there doesn´t seem to be a viable commercial option.

If its a hobby then I am guessing you don´t have a need or desire to publish an app to Android or iOS? If there is a way forward that I´m missing I would love to hear about it.

@Mihaly_Toth do you have a way forward with build apps that allows regular updating of a android / ios app?

For IOS builds not yet. That is one thing that will be added for sure in the next few weeks (latest months), that’s gonna be needed for the SAP customers as well.

As for the other announcement please read it carefully again and register for that link. This is a new version of the Composer, which is built inside the SAP environment, it is more maintained, and so on. I’m not sure about the Android status, but web builds work reliably there so I usually generate my web builds in there.

Note, that this version is NOT a Free trial, it is a fully free version of Composer. There is only one limit on the builds, cannot have multiple builds queued up for a single type (like 2 web builds queued up at the same time). Which means it will stay free. It has several performance improvements and work within the editor is much more enjoyable again in there. I would suggest not moving for you until there is IOS builds, but just for experiments.

I don’t think there is an option to export your app and import it back to the old Composer, so for IOS stay here for a while. For the web no-brainer to move over, input fields have way more events (key press, submitted, etc), and generally, it is more performant.

Of course, the data tab has changed by a lot, but the rest API and Firebase integrations are still there, so overall I feel more confident in that version. If we (the Team I work in) didn’t focus that much on IOS, but more on the web, we would already be working only in the new version.

So please just test it for your use case, and in the meantime, you already have a plan b, so why not spend a few more hours exploring?

That sounds promising. Once iOS builds are added I will explore it.

I don´t have a web build and need to keep my iOS and Android builds in sync. I´m happy to leave my app unchanged until iOS builds are added to make it worthwhile investigating.

Is there a new forum too? If not then what user feedback do we actually have on issues with the new platform?

 Nicely put.

If you ever need or want to publish your app on iOS you don´t need a MAC. I have pay for a virtual service that costs about $5 a month. Let me know if you want the details.

I use Login - Hosted Macintosh

They did a special pricing plan for me which is only 70$US per annum. It gives me 1/2 hour per day which is plenty. They don´t restrict the time too closely.

I can´t recall which set of instructions I followed to get all the certificates working, but they worked quite well.

You also need to pay the apple developer fee which is around 100 per annum. I don´t know if there is a way to avoid this and load it directly.

Good luck.
